A Little Background

After graduating from Stellenbosch University in 1990 with a B.Sc in Mathematical Sciences, I started work as a junior actuarial assistant at a large South African life assurer.

After six months, a friend introduced me to a computer programming course offered by the company. As I was somewhat bored and disillusioned with the nature of the work of an actuarial assistant, I applied to do the course, was accepted … and never looked back!

I have been a professional software developer ever since and I’m still loving the work after more than 25 years. The daily opportunity to solve problems in a creative way is what keeps me going.

How I Came to Practice Life Coaching

As a young married man I went through an emotionally dark period when I was  plagued by fear, worry and anxiety. I was fortunate to have a counsellor by my side to guide me through this and this stirred in me a desire to learn more about human behaviour, motivation and disciplined thought patterns.

In 2011 I became involved in youth mentoring programmes and spent time engaging with teenagers and adults as they shared their hopes, fears and dreams.

It awakened in me a a desire to learn more about tools and techniques that can be used to guide people towards more meaningful and sustainable futures.

From Jan 2012 until Dec 2016, I headed up the volunteering youth development group and this helped me to acquire valuable leadership skills.

Towards the end of this period I embarked on the life coach training and certification programme with New Insights and this was to add yet another dimension to my life.

While completing my practice coaching sessions, I developed a proficiency in helping my clients formulate realistic goals and breaking them down into sometimes small, but always meaningful and challenging action steps.

I found it particularly energising to engage with people who were experiencing a lack of fulfillment and/or those who had arrived at a crossroads in their lives. I really enjoyed helping them to develop a new perspective, uncover and eradicate limiting beliefs and start to turn their lives around.
